Kathy Hathorn, MA, EDAC
Kathy Hathorn is CEO and Creative Director of American Art Resources, a firm specializing in creating healthcare art programs using evidence-based principles. She has over twenty-five years' experience working exclusively with the healthcare industry and has personally created or supervised over 500 individual art programs in facilities across the United States, representing more than 46,000,000 square feet in projects.
Kathy serves as a consultant to major hospital companies and a number of the nation's largest architectural firms specializing in healthcare. She has gained international recognition as a speaker and writer in the field of healing environments. She is considered an innovator and authority in addressing the needs of special patient populations through art. In 1993 she was selected by the American Hospital Association to write the definitive standards for healthcare art programs.
She serves as the Art Liaison for the American Academy of Healthcare Interior Designers and was invited to develop the art portion of the credentialing exam for AAHID. Additionally, she sits on the Environmental Standards Council and the Research Council for The Center for Health Design. She has been the co-investigator in a number of research studies and has been published in peer-reviewed journals.
Signature projects include Celebration Health for the Disney Company and Florida Hospital, Northwestern Memorial Hospital, a $580,000,000 redevelopment project in Chicago; The Center for Advanced Medicine, a 1,000,000 square foot outpatient facility in St. Louis and a 500,000 square foot project for The George Washington University Hospital replacement facility in Washington, DC. Recent projects also include Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend, a 1,000,000 square foot Pebble Project in Springfield, Oregon; a 1,000,000 square foot replacement project for Northwestern Memorial Prentice Women's Hospital in Chicago, and the new 375,000 square foot North Carolina Cancer Center at the University of North Carolina. Since 2003, Kathy has served as Consultant of Record to head up 4,000,000+ square feet of work for M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.
She has been featured in Business Week Magazine and profiled in The Coolest Entrepreneurs in America. Kathy was voted one of the 25 Most Influential People in Healthcare Design in 2009. |
