Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, county hospital for San Bernardino County, California, replaces a dreary, styleless and clinically-outdated medical facility from the 1950's. While its patients are the poorest of the poor in the entire state, the new hospital offers first-class architectural design and state-of-the-art medicine and technology to a traditionally underserved population.

The goal of the art program was to create an environment that was familiar and comfortable to its many users, regardless of their socio-economic backgrounds. Serene views of the California landscape represent a commitment of the client to provide a dignified and supportive space. Vintage photographs of San Bernardino County and the hospital dating back 100 years add perspective and impart a message of a community which is embracing the best of both old and new.
