Women's and Children's Hospital

Because the hospital serves a predominantly Hispanic clientele, the art draws on the rich heritage of Mexican craft and handiwork, celebrating the culture of its users.

Many of the pieces are three-dimensional, such as hand-carved wooden animals and tin figures. Textiles such as arpaduras and molas add textural interest and help to soften intimidating spaces like exam rooms and procedure areas that are particularly frightening to children.

Many of the pieces are one-of-a-kind to avoid the sameness in so many art programs for children's hospitals. This approach appeals to young people ranging in age from infancy to late teens, as well as adult staff and visitors.
