Challenge/Solution
Encompassing nearly 500,000 square feet, the new facility for women and children at UNC is one of the largest of its kind in the United States. As a public entity, UNC serves and supports all of its citizens. American Art Resources was engaged to create an art collection that would reflect that commitment. The collection reflects the rural and rugged beauty of the state, from the coast to the mountains.

All original art in the project is by artists living and working in North Carolina. American Art Resources acted as the gatekeeper for the Owner, managing all aspects of the local artists' program.

Because of the high stress, high turnover nature of a pediatric nursing staff, the objective was to create a space that was both adult friendly and age-appropriate for children at the same time. The art program followed suit with images that were whimsical, endearing, and engaging for both adults and children, without being juvenile or incorporating popular commercial imagery.

A total of nearly 400 new works were purchased for the facility. American Art Resources was also responsible for evaluating and managing donations of art for the project and for re-framing and incorporating hundreds of existing works into the new facility.
