Art Preferences of Design Students Vs. Hospital Patients Auburn University
Our collaborator, Dr. Sarajane Eisen, also conducted the survey that was conducted with hospital patients with her Interior Design and Building Science students at Auburn University. Results show that nature images made even the design students feel better. However, there was a disconnect between images students felt better about and those that they chose to have in their room. Overall realistic nature images rated higher in patients than the students. Findings suggest that designers may be using criteria for aesthetic judgment over emotional response during the selection of art, which may not be appropriate in the high stress context of healthcare environments.
