Phoenix Children’s Hospital stands as one of the largest pediatric medical centers in the United States. The art collection, known as “An Oasis in the Desert,” represents a sanctuary of healing and hope amidst the challenges faced by young patients and their families. The collection aims to create a nurturing environment within the hospital by providing an array of vibrant and uplifting artworks. The overarching vision behind each project is to craft spaces that are not only colorful and uplifting but also whimsical, providing emotional support to a patient demographic spanning a wide acuity level and age range. Bronze sculptures depicting playful animals act as guiding beacons on each floor’s elevator lobby, aiding young patients and their families in wayfinding through the hospital’s vast corridors. Art serves as a cornerstone in the strategy of positive distraction, aiming to engage patients effectively
