Thoughtfully curated pieces were selected to reflect the building’s sustainable design and its strong connection to nature. HCCC Announces CraftTexas 2025 Award of Merit Winners
The Houston Center for Contemporary Craft has announced the Award of Merit winners for its CraftTexas 2025 exhibition. Selected by juror Abraham Thomas of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the honorees are Annie Arnold of Austin, Naomi Choi of Houston, and Naomi Wanjiku of San Antonio. Each artist’s work explores powerful narratives through craft: Arnold’s embroidered badges critique influencer culture, Choi’s clay vessels reflect our relationship with nature, and Wanjiku’s metalwork honors her Kenyan heritage and themes of resilience. Thomas praised the exhibition for showcasing the breadth of craft practices across Texas and highlighting craft’s role as both an anchor in uncertain times and a mirror of contemporary society.
